Pension Application for Aaron Allis or Ellis

            Testimony in the case Aaron Allis an applicant to be placed on the Pension List, under the act of Congress of the 18 March 1818.

            Aaron Allis a resident of the City of Troy, in the County of Rensselaer and State of New York being duly sworn, doth depose and say, that he served in the Revolutionary Army of the United States.  That in the month of April 1777, he enlisted as a private in a company commanded by Col. _____ Weston.  That this deponent served in the said company and regiment, for the term of three years, (being the term of his enlistment.) and that he was honorably discharged at West Point in the State of New York, on the ninth day of April 1789.  And this deponent further says that he again enlisted in the service of the United States in the month of March 1781, in a company commanded by William Watson, in the ninth Regiment of the Massachusetts line, which regiment was commanded by Capt---Wade, in the Massachusetts line, in the Third Regiment commanded by col. Michael Jackson, in which last mentioned company and regiment this deponent served nearly three years, part of the time as a Sergeant, and was honorably discharged, at West Point in the State of New York, on the 23d December 1783.  That the evidence of the last mentioned discharge, signed by Major Gen. Knox. at that time commanding the American Forces on the Hudson’s River, is now in the possession of this deponent.  And this deponent further says that “by reason of his reduced circumstances in life, he is in need of assistance from his country for support.”  (Signed) Aaron Allis

            On the 30th day of March 1818, the above named Aaron Allis came personally before me, subscribed the foregoing declaration and being duly sworn, declared it to be true according to the best of his recollection and belief.  Jas. Malloy, Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in & for the County of Rensselaer State of New York.

            In the Court of Common Pleas called the Mayor’s Court of the City of Troy.
            In this first day of August 1820, personally appeared in open court, (beign a court of record in and for the said City according to the solemn adjudications of the Supreme Court of this state, and being a court which proceeds according to the course of common law; with a jurisdiction unlimited in point of amount; keeping a record of its proceedings; and possessing the power of fine and imprisonment) Aaron Allis aged fifty six years, resident in the City of Troy in said County, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath declare, that he served in the revolutionary war as follows:--Three years in the Third Regiment of Massachusetts line commanded by Michael Jackson, & in a Company Commanded by Capt. Wade and was discharged at West Point by Henry Knox Major Gen’l (Discharge sent to War Department) That the number of my certificate of pension is 427, and the date of my original declaration is the thirtieth day of March 1818.
            And I do solemnly swear that that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March, 1818; and that I have not, since that time, by gift, sale, or in any manner, disposed of my property, or any part thereof, with intent thereby so to diminish it, as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of congress entitled “An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the revolutionary war,” passed on the 18th of March, 1818; and that I have not, nor has any person in trust for me, any property or securities, contracts, or debts, due to me; nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed, and by me subscribed.  (Signed) Aaron Allis.

            Schedule of all the property both real and personal (necessary bedding & clothing excepted) of Aaron Allis a pensioner under the Laws of the United Stated of the 18 March 1818.
            Real Estate & have none, Personal Property as follows.
            6 chairs, 2 chests, 1 table, 1 stand, 1 set knives & forks, 1 slice & Tongs, 1 pot, 1 kettle, 1 spider $11.25
            Tea Kettle & skillet, teapot, sugar bowl, cream cup, 2 platters 4, bowls, 2 decanters 4 small tumblers $2.62 ½
            3 [?] glasses, 5 glass bottles, 2 jugs, 2 stone[?] 2 wooden bowls, 2 Barrels, 1 ornate crock 2 [??] 2 pots $3.62
            1 shovel, 1 pick, 1 old axe, 1 handsaw, 1  Jointer, 1 Jack plain, 1 wood saw, 1 pr andirons $4.25 ½.
            I Aaron Allis being sworn say that the above list of my property is estimated at its true Value.  That I am fifty six years of age and am unable to support myself on account of sickness and the continued indisposition of my wife, I have no other family but my wife named Huldah aged fifty years who has out of health 19 years & unable to work & for nineteen months last past has been confined to her bed—I was bred to the farming business but for many years have been a day laborer—and this deponent says he is entitled to more than 90 Dates.  (Signed) Aaron Allis
