Pension Application for John Allen

State of New York
Saratoga County SS.
            John Allen of the Town of Galway in the County of Saratoga being by me duly sworn declares on his oath that he this deponent enlisted as a private in the Continental Establishment in the war of the Revolution in Capt. David VanNess’ company in the first New York Regiment commanded by Col. VanSchaick in the year one thousand seven hundred & seventy six that he this deponent served his country in the capacity of a private for six years and nine months in the said war and was honorably discharged from the service of his country on the 8th day of June 1783 under the hand of his excellency the late Genl Washington—and he this deponent further saith that he is by reason of his reduced circumstances in life, in need of assistance from his country for support & further this deponent saith not.  (Signed with his mark)  John Allen
            Subscribed & Sworn to this twenty eight day of March 1818—before me.  John Taylor, one of the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas in & for the County of Saratoga.

            On this twenty fourth day of October 1836, personally appeared before John Titus one of the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the County of Schenectada, Mary Allen a resident of the town of Galway, in the county of Saratoga, and State of New York, aged seventy six years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on her oath, make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress, passed July 4, 1836.  That she is the widow of John Allen who was a private in the army of the revolution in the New York Line, and he received a pension of $96 per annum under the act of the 18th of March 1818.
            She further declares that she was married to the said John Allen on the fourth day of March, in the year seventeen hundred and eighty; that her husband, the aforesaid John Allen, died on the seventh day of April last past and that she has remained a widow ever since that period, as will more fully appear by reference to the proof hereunto annexed.  (Signed with here mark)  Mary Allen
